Tribute to Dennis Cardiff and Loretta Saunders

Tribute to an Aboriginal Doctorate student cut down in the prime of her life.

The image of Loretta Saunders reached out from the PC screen  this morning and touched me with its sad smile.  Sitting upright on her lawn chair, it’s as if she was, this far from standing up when someone snapped the picture.  In super bold lettering under her image were the words ,. . . . . .  “

Call a public inquiry into hundreds of missing and murdered Aboriginal women like my cousin Loretta Saunders.” The ‘Word Press.’ post continued with her story in abbreviated form.

       Last month, my cousin Loretta Saunders was murdered at age 26. She was a student at St. Mary’s University in Halifax and was writing her honours thesis on the hundreds of missing and murdered Aboriginal women in Canada.

Our family is Inuit, and Loretta has now become one of the over 800 missing or murdered Aboriginal women she was fighting for. It is time for our government to address this epidemic of violence against Aboriginal women.

Last week, we broke down when we learned Loretta’s body had been found in a ditch beside the Trans-Canada Highway in New Brunswick. . . . . . . More commentary followed with elaboration on the post by Dennis Cardiff.

       This is why I invite all who are on face book to join ‘Wordpress” and get a free Blog site.  When individuals have no resources to petition their Government, the next best  recourse for the aggrieved is social media.  I suggest even thru the electronic airways, my fellow writer and compriate Dennis Cardiff, ask our American Aboriginals, now known as Native Americans, previously referred to as “Indians” for help in using  US and world TV and it’s built in web of sensationalism to their and Humanity’s advantage. The Native Americans have great sway since “Wounded knee” as do the NAACP and lately here with the Trevon Martin case.  Again condolences to Loretta Saunders’s family. How ironic that her Doctoral Thesis was on the hundreds of missing and murdered Abrobinal women in Canada.
